The Corporate Lobbyist Who’ll Be Running The Trump Presidency

Socialists have long argued that the Republicans and the Democrats are two masks worn by the same corporate system and now Donald Trump’s cabinet appointments are showing that to be true.

His Presidency will be run by Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. The 67 year old worked as a corporate lobbyist working for lobbying firms like Ballard Partners, who wine and dine politicians for Google and Amazon, and lobbying firm Mercury, whose client list includes Elon Musk’s SpaceX and the Embassy of Qatar.

Corporations spent over €2 billion buying off US politicians in the first half of 2024 alone - but now the lobbyists are at the heart of the Trump regime.

Susie Wiles is also a veteran campaigner for the Republicans - working for the Ronald Reagan campaign for President in 1980 and more recently helping Ron DeSantis run for governer of Florida. DeSantis enacted polcies favourable to corporations, like lowering corporation tax, while posturing for far right votes by attacking LGBTQ people and immigrants.

It was Reagan in the US and Thatcher in Britain who launched the 40 year war on the working class we now call “neoliberalism” - privatisation, outcourcing and cuts to public services. Wiles helped create the social devastation we see all around us today.

Trump claims to be an enemy of the establishment yet his 2016 cabinet was also stacked with corporate insiders - he put Steven Mnuchin of Goldman Sachs in charge of the Treasury and made the investor, Wilbur Ross, whose fortune was then estimated at $2.9 billion, commerce secretary.

But to make sure no one paid attention to the corporate orgy going on at the top Trump stuck immigrant children in cages and poisoned political debate with culture war soundbites - all the better to fool, divide and rule.

The billionaire class has two wings - the fake liberal wing, who want to give us the illusion of democracy while defending corporate power and the authoritarian wing, who want to go back to old methods of division and control.

We need to overthrow both wings of the parasitic boss class - the liberal liars and the billionaire bigots!
