Pensioners protest Argentina

False Promises, Failures And Fools: The Far Right In Power

Argentinian far right politician and current President Javier Milei has faced mass protests by working class pensioners. One old woman held up a shirt that read, “Don’t hit us, we are your parents!”

Soccer fans joined the pensioners on the streets to protest against the slashing of pension payments as Milei turns on some of the poorest working class people in Argentina.

Milei sent in the riots cops to smash the protests - so much for that “free speech!” his type go on about all the time. They fired tear gas and rubber bullets at crowds of pensioners.

Before taking power Milei went on about fighting the “globalists” and spouted the usual far right talking points but once in power he began slashing state supports to the poor.

He promised he’d take a chainsaw to the state finances. Tens of thousands of workers were sacked, wages were forced down and welfare supports cut. The country went into a recession.

The poverty rate in the country went from 41.7% to 53%. Public works faced a 23.6% cut - schools, hospitals and vital services were cut. This massive austerity is a war against the working class and the poor.

This is no suprise - Milei’s campaigning was bankrolled by billionaire Eduardo Eurnekian. The billionaire is Argentina’s fourth richest man. While tens of thousands of Milei supporters lost all their money members of the elite made €100 million from a crypto scam Milei launched.

Milei has also made nepotism legal so he could give his sister a top state job. One of the most powerful people in the Milei government is Economy Minister Luis Caputo. Caputo previously worked at JP Morgan, the largest US bank.

The top 10% of income earners earn 23 times more than the poorest 10%, compared to 19 times two years ago. They want to hand over 59 state companies to the rich and have even proposed privatising a river!

Milei is hoping that his destruction of the economy will lead to rich people investing and a recovery after a period of pain. But while the rich may get richer that doesn’t mean the benefits will “trickle down” to ordinary Argentinians.

And far from breaking with Washington and insitutions like the IMF, Milei is in their pocket.

Milei invited the CIA director to come to Buenos Aires to meet with his government officials, where they signed an agreement in which the US spy agency (which has sponsored coups d’etats across Latin America) will train Argentina’s intelligence services.

Milei gave the US military control of an Argentine weapons factory in order to produce ammunition on behalf of NATO, to send to Ukraine. He only changed position when Trump was elected.

The far right are a section of the establishment who align themselves with the disgruntled middle class to divide and conquer the working class. They know that most ordinary people won’t vote for tax cuts for the rich or cuts to their own incomes and so they use wedge issues to get votes.

The establishment is divided into two wings - one wing thinks they can use progressive language to dupe us into supporting the capitalist economy. The other wing wants to go back to authoritarian methods of control.

Out of power the far right use the language of insurrection, but it’s a fake revolution. Once in power they get back to serving the establishment they promised to oppose.

Take the masks off all these politicians and show they class they truly serve. The far right in power are a bunch of frauds, failures and fools!
