Red Statement: Two State Solution Is Still Genocide In Slow Motion

The Palestinian people will welcome the ceasefire agreement as a chance for aid to pour in but they’re also painfully aware that Apartheid Israel will continue its campaign of extermination, elimination and expulsion.

For over 70 years the Israelis have stolen Palestinian land, year after year the Zionist state expands, by overt military means or through Zionist settlements that steal Palestinian homes.

The two state solution is now being pushed as the next step by everyone from Fianna Fáil to Sinn Féin. But what kind of state can the Palestinians actually form in a bombed out patchwork of lands that is shrinking year after year, not just in Gaza but the West Bank too?

The two state solution acts as a cover for continued Israel expansion and just guarantees more violent acts by the Israeli state in the future. In the immediate aftermath of this war the US are proposing an international administration to run Gaza, headed by mass murderer Tony Blair.

The Palestinian people won’t be allowed to have elections and vote for who they want as government. Trump’s “Gaza International Transitional Authority” will treat Palestinians as a “service delivery arm” while power stays in the hands of an International Board.

This is an imperialist occupation of the Gaza strip. And if the Palestinians object or resist they’ll be met with the firepower of the US state.

Now the weary people of Gaza return to the bombed out shells of their former homes, more than 90% of homes are now damaged or destroyed. They will find dried out fields where once crops grew, workplaces gone.

The World Bank estimates that over 85% of workers in Gaza are now without work and production has fallen to just 16% of pre-war levels. Hospitals lay in ruins. There are over 70,000 dead and they’ve still to clear the rubble where they will undoubtedly find thousands more, some in mass graves.

The two state solution isn’t a solution, it’s a lie that provides Apartheid Israel with the cover it needs to continue doing what it’s done for the last 70 years. A real solution involves understanding Israel as part of the imperialist framework imposed on that entire region.

The US holds the leash and Israel is the attack dog for US interests in the region. That’s why Israel has gotten away with genocide, because the most powerful and violent regime on the planet, the USA, supports them and only pulled on the leash when US interests in Qatar were threatened by Israeli actions.

The key question is how do you defeat imperialism? Only the combined might of the working class has the power to do that. Without revolutions across the Middle East and across the West the imperial powers will continue to shield their attack dog, Israel.

In Ireland our contribution has to be to defend our neutrality, build a movement to eventually pull down our establishment and contribute to a global working class movement against the Empires of greed and their vicious proxies.

We have to link the fight against imperialism to the day to day concerns of working class people in order to build a movement that can actually win. The general strike in Italy shows how workers’ power can be a challenge to a government’s international policy and embolden workers to fight on the home front too.

We have to be honest, without revolt by workers across the Middle East and here in the West there is no other way out.

Today we mourn for Gaza’s dead, tomorrow we get out into the workplaces and estates to build a movement to bring down Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Lowry gang.
