Open Letter To All Workers Active On The Left

Workers need a party of their own. Without that we just end up led by the nose by other classes.

To be a real workers’ party you need to do mass work and you also need to be honest about the need for a working class rebellion.

No group apart from the Red Network combines both.

By mass work:

• We mean rolling up your sleeves, working hard and building campaigns against council rent hikes or fighting to save local bus services.

• We mean building grassroots union groups that can push the bureaucracy of our unions to fight.

• We mean standing in local and national elections but with a clear call to put workers in the driving seat.

Some groups do some mass work but they don’t combine it with political honesty. They water down their politics to get votes.

They don’t tell workers that the only way to win change and make that change secure is to put workers in the driving seat of a planned economy.

And that’s going to take a working class rebellion.

Then there are others on the left who live in left bubbles. They talk about rebellion but just shout it from the sidelines. They fail to see how you can use elections in a revolutionary way.

They’ve no roots in the workplaces or estates. They’re parties of students, not workers.

The Red Network is the only group in Ireland that combines mass work with clear revolutionary politics.

This is the only way out of the dead end of student left bubbles or watered down election campaigns that patronise our class.

We don’t use elections simply to win seats or promote a list of reforms. We don’t lie to workers and claim that the same old system can simply be run by a coalition of the middle class left.

We tell our class the cold hard truth.

It’s going to take hard work to build a real working class party in Ireland. The Red Network may be a small network of workers but we have a strategy and we are going to fight for it every single day.

One that can combine campaigning on all the issues that matter to our class with honesty about the need to bring down the establishment and put workers in the driving seat of a planned economy.
