Description
Corruption and cover up. That’s the real story of the Irish state. A machine that exists to fill the pockets of billionaires like Denis O’Brien and Larry Goodman. On the 100th birthday of the 1921 Treaty with Britain — which divided the country and established two rotten states — James O’Toole explains how the Irish state came to be and how it maintained its hold over the Irish people. He shows how the Gardaí and the Church worked hand in hand with the Golden Circle to keep working class people down while a rotten sectarian state machine in the North used racist poison to divide workers.
From the early days of the “Free State” to the corporate takeover of recent years — this book explains how real change requires a people power rebellion against the state and argues that a democratic socialist united Ireland is possible. That was the vision of James Connolly and it’s still worth fighting for. This book is vital reading for all those who want real change in 21st Century Ireland.
About the Author:
James O’Toole is a self educated working class activist who grew up in Fatima Mansions council flats in Dublin’s South West inner city. His family moved up to Crumlin when he was 12. He joined the socialist movement in 2001 and has taken part in every protest movement going for the last 20 years. His writing in this book draws from a combination of life experience in the poorer quarters of Dublin’s working class and a wide ranging reading of classics, philosophy, politics and economics.
